Our current focus is the west side of Dayton, Ohio that has suffered disproportionately due to failed public policy, hyper-segregation, discriminatory housing practices, and chronic disinvestment. Most Rust Belt cities, for example, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Youngstown, Ohio, have had a very large decrease in their population since the 1950s and 1960s. In some regions (the Rust Belt, USA) economic restructuring has triggered a spiral of decline, which includes increasing levels of social deprivation (education, health, crime, access to services and living environment) in both deindustrialised urban areas and rural settlements once dominated by primary economic activities. The Rust Belt Neighborhood Development Corporation is a 501 (c) (3) organization is a multifaceted neighborhood development organization launched in 2020 to catalyze strategic investment in neighborhoods throughout the Rust Belt region. It became an Industrial hub because of its proximity to The Great Lakes, canals, and rivers which companies used to access raw materials and ship out products. However, from the mid-20th century, the area experienced de-industrialization, a decrease in its population, and urban decay. In the past, this region was popular for its production of steel and a booming industrial sector. This region is called the Rust Belt because the decline in industrial work has left many factories abandoned and uncared for, rusting due to their exposure to. Much of this decrease in industry is because of the United States using manufacturers from other countries. The Rust Belt is an area that covers the Midwest American states to the Great Lakes. As the name might imply, the area has sort of turned to " rust", like what happens to old steel. That industry has greatly decreased since the middle of the 20th century. This area was once known for steel production and heavy industry. The area is mostly the states near the Great Lakes, and some of them are considered to be Midwest states. " Rust Belt" is a term that refers to an area of the northern United States.

It was formerly home to America’s most important and core industries, such as steel and automobile manufacturing, and once comprised the nation’s industrial heartland. It ends in northern Illinois, eastern Iowa, and southeast Wisconsin. More than one century later, the former automobile manufacturing plant from the early 1900’s, is the newest addition to unique venues in the Quad Cities. The Rust Belt area begins in New York State and runs west through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Indiana and Michigan.
